Congratulations to Ben & Maria who are now 12 weeks along in their pregnancy. I should also mention three of my cousins are very close to coming to term with their pregnancies and my coworker Niels & his wife Jo are also pregnant with their first child.
It should be noted that everyone else got their wives pregnant after I got Theresa pregnant…so in essence they are all just copying me like Mitch.
PS - forgot to mention my old college roommate Matt - formerly of New Orleans now of Ohio - and his wife are expecting a new daughter any day now as well.
In his continuing efforts to emulate my life, Mitch announced on his birthday that he & Kim are now expecting a child. Big congrats to you and Kim both, buddy. You two have no idea what you’re in for. (I mean that in a good way.)
The day after JJ was born, I took a brief trek home to clean myself up, take care of a few things & grab Theresa’s laptop. The reason for her laptop was 2-fold. First, so I could pull down all the photos from my camera to free up more memory on the flashcard & the second was that I wanted to write something down.
The following was written around 6pm on December 29th. I never got a chance to finish it & now feel that finishing it would do injustice to the moment that it was written.
“It’s just past 5:37 on Dec 29th marking the end of JJ’s first day out of the womb. JJ celebrates his 25th hour with a nap, while his mom has her eyes closed to relax, but not too heavily lest JJ stir from his slumber for the occasional cry. Fear not though, a quick loving shush or belly rub usually stills the waters quickly without incident.
How do I describe yesterday? Brandi, I think, put it best when describing the sound of my voice over the phone. To paraphrase her comment, I have never in my life been so tired, so proud, so amazed & so completely humbled all at once.
By the time it was all over I was exhausted and covered with sweat. I would love to try to describe Theresa’s physical, mental and emotional state immediately following the birth, but I cannot even come close to finding the genuine words to describe what I saw. All I will say is this. After more than 10 hours of labor, drugs, food deprivation & sheer pain on a level that I really now think we men will never fully comprehend, the moment she held JJ, it was all gone. All that was left was pure, unadulterated joy & love. It was like the entire rest of the day didn’t even exist to her anymore.”
Many of you are already aware of this, and those who aren’t have probably guessed it by now. Nonetheless, I wanted to formalize the announcement.

Photos have been added to my gallery for everyone to enjoy.
