The Good, The Bad & The Typical

Monday, June 6th, 2005

A brief interjection before I start. This is my 100th posting on my blog, but sadly only the sixth of any meaningful content.

We went to Las Vegas to celebrate my buddy Matt’s 30th birthday this weekend. Overall it was one of the better Vegas weekend trips. Pictures to come shortly.

THE GOOD
We encountered practically no traffic either way. The only real clog was about 20 minutes on the return trip because of an accident (flipped RV).

I learned how to play craps. MONSTROUS PROPS to Chris Lee who not only taught Tony, Matt, Kathy, Theresa and I how to play craps, but he did it so well that all of us won at every craps table we touched. Craps may be my favorite game there now. Chris, you rock. Your next bottle of grey goose is on me.

New Casinos! As always with Vegas, we got to check out a couple of casinos none of us have set foot in. The Wynn’s architecture is gorgeous, but the colors look like Wynn himself chose them. (He is blind.) Also got to set foot in the Hard Rock. That is definitely a younger casino (in terms of patronage). I enjoyed it thoroughly despite the crowds.

The Wynn’s buffet was absolutely amazing. Because we were a large party, they charged us an 18% gratuity on the meal. We all were a bit annoyed to be pay $30 for a buffet, but it was worth every penny. Everyone ate ’til food was pouring out of our ears. Any of you who are going in the immediate future must try it.

The Monte Carlo lived up to my expectations. Most of you who have frequented Vegas know the Casino’s are set up to get you lost by making you walk the length of the casino to go from the parking lot to the registration & then back to your room. The Monte Carlo definitely contradicts this. The parking lot, registration & elevators are all conveniently located together.

THE BAD
A short phonecall practical joke upset Kathy. Apologies & amends have been made - said incident is over.

I lost about 1/2 of my craps winnings at Let It Ride in the Hard Rock. I love Let It Ride - it’s probably my favorite card table game. The table Chris & I sat down at was cold - I dont think I saw more than 2 pairs show up in any hand during the duration of gameplay. We should have known to get up & walk away, but I think we both figured a good hand was due & were hoping to pick it up.

Something from my dinner turned my stomach on Saturday night so I didn’t get to go to the strip club and buy Matt his lapdance personally. My intention was to find the hottest asian girl at the place (Matt’s got a thing for them) & treat him to one or two lapdances, but alas all I could settle for was giving him the money so he could buy it himself.

Our room’s view wasn’t the greatest (air conditioning units). Kathy got an upgrade @ the other hotel by hamming up the birthday thing & got them on the 25th floor.

THE TYPICAL
I lost my wedding ring. Most of you are wondering why this isn’t in “The Bad”. Theresa and many of you who know me know this sort of thing is very typical of me. My wedding ring has probably been a good size and a half to large for a year now. We couldn’t get it resized because it was titanium. The only way to resize it was to ship it back to the manufacturer in Germany. On many occasions the ring has slipped off my fingers of its own accord. Sometimes I noticed it, sometimes I didn’t. Most times, this occured at home though. Well, it slipped off my finger at the pool area of the Monte Carlo. Tony aided me in my efforts to find it, but to no avail. I will be replacing it shortly. Theresa was relieved to see me pushing away the throngs of plastic boobed women during the rest of the trip though.
