A close run in with the cops

Monday, May 31st, 2004

I have joked a lot that at some point in my life when I see a cop car driving by me, I will throw everything I am holding up in the air and run in the opposite direction just to see what they do. Lucky I didn’t do it today.

About an hour ago, my wife & I took a short walk to the local Starbucks for some cheap coffee (cheap because we are regulars and they only charge us for one drink). Rather than taking our usual 2-mile walk, we took a short walk around the block.

As we were walking back up to Ventura, we heard (but didn’t see) a truck come to a screeching halt. A little bit further up and we saw the truck sitting in the middle of the road. The driver was standing on the opposite sidewalk shouting to a passing police car, “HE’S OVER THERE! HE JUST RAN AROUND THE CORNER!”

In the blink of an eye, about 5 police cars came blasting from every direction towards the truck and proceeded around the corner the driver was pointing towards; the very corner we needed to go around to get home. As we were approaching the corner, I commented to Theresa, “I gotta see what these guys are chasing.” thinking that they had continued up Ventura.

Nearing the corner, I noticed a few police cars are stopped in the middle of the road, and traffic is at a standstill. Just as I am about to completely turn the corner, 5 policemen come running round the corner GUNS DRAWN shouting at my wife & I “GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE NOW!”

Well, we didn’t have to be told twice. We hustled our unarmed asses across the street towards Mels where the manager was stepping outside to find out what was happening. We stopped, chatted with him for a brief moment & turned around to survey the scene. There were easily 10-12 police cars stopped across 3 lanes Ventura Blvd. They were scouring the PacBell parking lot & the surrounding vicinity. On top of that they were re-routing traffic out of the area.

Well, since they didn’t seem to be concerned with the other side of the street, we crossed over & decided to head home. They now had the road completely blocked off, but seemed to be ok with pedestrian traffic walking by (I guess cars are more important to protect than we, the walking public). Just as we managed to get into our neighborhood (street is more like it), we managed to finally hear over one of the squackboxes that was cranked WAY up, that someone had been robbed at gunpoint.

So that was my Memorial Day excitement.

On a side note, is it me or did anyone else see the new Catwoman movie before when it starred Brandon Lee & was called The Crow?

Potter Puppet Pals

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

I can’t remember quite when I found this site, but with the forthcoming release of Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (starring Daniel Radcliff) I thought I would share a new animation by the folks at The Potter Puppet Pals called Sexy

Cuz Bryan complained

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

Bryan was complaining that I needed a new a blog entry so I just thought it would be nice to note that he let the game winning goal in at the last broomball game allowing my team to win.

Also, on a side note, Ace sent me an email documenting how much he has been drinking on his vacation. Sadly, it was not enough to hospitalize him. Here’s hoping to next time.

A simple request

Thursday, May 20th, 2004

If anyone at EA is reading this humble blog of mine, I would like to make a request. Every year, you have added a new element to your sports games to make them feel more realistic. I feel, though, that you have overlooked the most important, most realistic elements of all modern sports - drugs & crime.

Forget about being able to set concession prices. That gets boring after you set the price of a beer to $15.

I want to be able to make my trainer hand out steroids to my players & then having them suspended after a random drug test. And do I even need to mention how much more frustrating it will be when I find out that one of my players has been indicted for taking money from boosters during his college career than the random roll-of-the-dice gameplay injury.

Given all of the other non-game oriented, minute details I can control in the game, I don’t think this is asking too much.

An open letter to James

On behalf of everyone who lives in Los Angeles, we hope you stay in San Diego. In fact may you should move a bit further south like Tijuana…or Antartica.

Never put your picture on the internet…

Thursday, May 13th, 2004

This is why you should never put a picture of yourself on the internet. I would also like to add that people have WAY too much time to screw around with photoshop.

Hopefully the music in this one will get the Banana Phone song out of all of your heads.

Somebody got married….

Monday, May 10th, 2004

For those of you who weren’t there, Mitch & Kim got married this weekend. It was a movie themed wedding (what a suprise in Los Angeles of all places - no really I mean it - who woulda thunk it).

Rather than numbering the tables, each table was named after a romantically themed film, our table discontent with “Lady and the Tramp” renamed the table “Deep Impact”. Without a doubt our table was definitely the loudest and I am 99% sure we drank the most of everyone there.

More wedding photos to come soon, but in the meanwhile here is the redesigned table sign. Please excuse the inserted P on impact, James doesnt know how to spell.
